What is 5G technology? Pros and Cons

by | 25 Jan, 2023 | Mobile Phones

A notable milestone in Indian history occurred on October 1, 2022, when Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the country’s commercial 5G deployment during the India Mobile Congress. A number of telecom providers have started deploying 5G technology in India.

What is 5G technology?

5G, is the fifth generation telecommunication network technology which is the rearmost upgrade in the Long-Term Elaboration( LTE) of mobile broadband networks.

After 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G, this new global wireless network technology enables a new type of network that is intended to connect almost everyone in the entire world as well as everything, including machines, objects, and many more.

Types of 5G frequency Spectrum

5G technology substantially works in 3 bands, namely low,  medium and high-frequency spectra where low band spectrum has great promise in terms of content and speed of internet and data exchange with limited speed.

The high-band diapason/spectrum delivers the fastest speed of all three bands and has been tested to reach as high as 15-20 Gbps (gigabits per second), while the mid-band diapason/spectrum gives advanced speed in relation to the low-band diapason/spectrum.

Advantages of 5G technology

5G Technology Benifits

5G network technology is designed to do a variety of tasks that can transform mortals’ lives completely. It’ll expand the mobile ecosystem into a new realm with faster download speeds and data transfer, negligible latency, and further capacity and connectivity for billions of devices especially in the fields of artificial intelligence(AI), virtual reality(VR), and Internet of things(IoT) and upcoming techs too.

Every industry will change as a result of 5G technology. Remote healthcare installations, perfect agriculture, computerized logistics, and safer and faster transportation are just a few examples.

Does 5G cause damage/threat to the environment?

Despite being non-ionizing because of its low wavelength and range, 5G could nevertheless be dangerous to the environment, the terrain, and human life. Most importantly, 5G will raise the amount of electromagnetic radiation in the atmosphere, increasing the risk of cancer and other health complaints.

Climate change

In transportation, for example, 5G will reduce effluents/emissions equivalent to the amount of carbon sequestered by 106 million acres of forest. Speakers from around the industry shared fresh exploration quantifying 5G’s power and potential.

Disadvantages of 5G technology

Although 5G technology is being investigated and conceptualized to address every radio signal issue and hardship in the mobile world. It has several drawbacks due to security concerns and the lack of technological improvement in the majority of regions:-

•It’s still in the planning stages, and research into its viability is ongoing.

•Because most of the world’s technological infrastructure is inadequate, the speed that this technology promises to deliver appears tough to attain.

•Many of the outdated technology will not work with 5G, necessitating a costly replacement of all of them with newer models.

•Problems with security and privacy remain unresolved.
